Ancient Ways~ Ancient Tea + Giveaway!

The weather here in Vermont has shifted, ever so slightly, turning from the last days of summer that slip into fall- daylight becoming shorter, cool mornings rise and chilly nights have crept in. Tea is brimming full!

Come celebrate a remarkable tea, Ancient Forest.....

Within the mountains in Yunnan, China lies a very ancient tea forest-

One of the most extraordinary ancient tea plantations in the world-with tea trees spreading out to cover over 11,000 acres of mountains.  The ancient tea forest of this high mountain range is located at approximately 5,000 feet above sea level and is enshrouded in mist.

According to history, tea cultivation in this area began over 1,300 years ago. Experts have verified that most of these ancient tea trees are between 800 to 1,200 years old. It is the largest ancient tea plantation ever found in China that is still producing tea today. The tea trees in the soil rich forests have never been fertilized, sprayed with chemicals, or watered. They have been extolled as a "Natural Tea History Museum." The teas that are produced from here are true quality organic products. With its scientific and cultural heritage, it is certainly the most precious tea aspect of culture in the world.

Unique Tea Harvesting and Processing~

Picking leaves from the thousand-year-old tea trees, is an arduous process. The girls who pick the leaves must climb huge, tall trees to harvest the new buds. It is dangerous and usually the buds are not plentiful. Tea produced in this region is made using traditional methods with little variation.

Unique Characteristics and properties of this tea~

Unlike the tea harvested from tea shrubs these days, teas grown in this region are categorized in the tree family. They grow in a balanced eco-system without the use of synthetic fertilizers and chemicals. Tea made from the buds of these thousand-year-old tea trees has a special flavor that beguiles. It carries a slight sweetness that is rarely found in other teas. One sip of this miraculous organic tea will leave your mouth filled with an unforgettable aroma and the feeling that life is as everlasting as that of the thousand-year-old tea tree…

According to recent health studies, tea from these ancient tea trees contains higher levels of polyphenol (catechin/flavanoid, flavones, anthocyanin and phenolic acids) than regular bush teas. It also contains Germanium, which are not normally found in cultivated tea plants.

Tea polyphenol have shown remarkable effects on anti-oxidation, bacterial inhibition, anti-radiation, prevention of carcinogen formation, reduction of blood-lipid, removal of free radicals, and deodoring.

Germanium has long been known for its use in clinical trials and has been reported to have therapeutic health effects in prevention of many diseases, including cancer and arthritis.

Celebrate this tea and a enter to win !!

Cherish

As I sit here and write this post, holding my youngest on my lap,  I am cherishing moments I spend with my family. This week I have been taking more time then usual to enjoy the simple, magical gifts of life: savoring cup of tea,  honoring visits from a ruby throat- ted  hummingbird, savoring a hug from my little ones and watching the graceful dance of the dragonfly's.

I've also been holding my children a little closer and making moments last a little longer, cherishing our time together.

All week I have not been able to stop thinking & praying for a little child for whom I never met, but feel a heart connection to, from simply being a mother.
My thoughts and prayers go out to my friend,  Lucy and her family @ Happy Womb, who almost lost her little one, this past week. Here is her blog; http://www.dreamingaloud.net/2012/08/almost.html

I'm pleased to announce my guest blog feature, "Nourishing The New Mama" @ the Happy Womb, please stop by and say hello http://thehappywomb.com/nourishing-the-new-mama-healing-foods-herbs/

Tonight I will make some quiet space to sit, sip tea and light a candle to cherish and set my intentions for tomorrows New Moon.

White Tea~ Learn the Health Benefits of White Tea!

 Organic White Peony Tea
 What is White Tea?

White tea  is delicate, light refreshing tea is harvested from the Fijian province of China.

White tea  is the delicate buds and leafs that are allowed to be sun-ripened, a unique characteristic of white tea.  This tea may also be known as "white cloud tea", originally grown by Buddhist monks.
Fine, silvery hairs develop on the tea leaf thus called "white tea".

Besides it's remarkable taste, white tea has some amazing health benefits.

Rich in antioxidants

There is no tea with a stronger concentration of antioxidants than white tea. Antioxidants are  naturally occurring chemical compounds that absorb and destroy other compounds known as free radicals. Free radicals break down the cells of the body, and are among the underlying source of many serious diseases and ailments, including heart disease and cancer. Even physical aging has been linked to the activities of free radicals. Antioxidants absorb, weaken and neutralize free radicals continuously. Maintaining a steady supply of strong antioxidants into the body is a important step in the direction of maintaining good health, along with ability to slow down physical aging.

White Tea and a Balanced Immune System

White tea is said to contain antibacterial and antiviral properties.  One of the single most important health benefits of white tea is, its natural anti-inflammatory properties which can help strengthen the immune system and ease inflammation and allergic responses. In addition, white tea helped fight the enzymes and oxidants which lead to inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.

Stronger Bones

According to research, avid tea drinkers enjoyed a 5% stronger bone density than non tea drinkers. It is believed the high polyphenol content in teas such as white tea are responsible for this particular health benefit.

Healthy Teeth and Gums

White tea contains small amounts of naturally occuring fluoride and other nutrients which keeps the teeth strong and healthy. It also kills the bacteria which causes plaque, tooth decay, and bad breath.

 Anti-aging, Arthritis and Heart Disease

Researchers from the School of Life and Sciences at Kingston University in South West London tested the health properties of 21 plant and herb extracts and found that white tea outperformed all of them. Their research concluded that the antioxidants in white tea had anti-aging potential and were beneficial in preventing some cancers, inflammation and heart disease.

Healthy Skin

Research showed that white tea is beneficial in protecting the structural proteins of the skin, mainly elastin and collagen. Elastin not only supports the natural elasticity of the skin but is also beneficial for the health of arteries, lungs and ligaments.  Tests showed that white tea helps to prevent the activities of enzymes that break down elastin and collagen.

Flavor Characteristics

A mellow, sweet, non-astringent flavor, with mild floral/nutty notes.

Sencha Cherry Lemonade

Sencha Cherry Lemonade:

A quintessential green tea, Sencha is one of the most popular teas in Japan.  Sencha accounts for about 80 % of the tea consumed in Japan. It is usually served hot in the winter and chilled in warmer weather.

Sencha literally means "steamed tea", which differs from Chinese green teas, which are typically pan-fired. After the steaming process, Japanese Sencha green tea leaves are hand rolled, shaped, and dried.  The steaming process creates a distinctive difference in the flavor between Chinese and Japanese green tea, with Japanese green tea having a more full-bodied, wholesome flavor. This process of steaming produces a tea more that is vibrant green in color and tealeaves that have higher content of minerals and vitamins.

Health benefits of drinking Sencha;

Sencha green tea is rich in antioxidants, known as polyphenols. These antioxidants are said to have many health related benefits from strengthening the immune system, increasing heart health, skin care and anti-aging benefits along with potential cancer prevention. Sencha tea is also said to help regulate blood sugar levels. Sencha leaves contain fluoride which is used to help maintain oral health and adding to tooth enamel strength.

Please keep in mind, water quality and temperature will greatly affect the flavor of sencha in your cup!.

Flavor characteristics: Sencha green tea has a refreshing mildly sweet, vegetal flavor with subtle herbal notes.

Health benefits of cherries;

Cherries are one of the few food sources that contain melatonin, an antioxidant that helps regulate heart rhythms and the body’s sleep cycles.  Cherries are rich key vitamins and minerals; high in beta carotene (vitamin A) , vitamins C, E, potassium, magnesium, iron, folate and fiber.

Cherries contain anthocyanins, which are said to be powerful anti-inflammatory’s, which can reduce inflammation and symptoms of arthritis and gout. These anti-inflammatory properties in cherries are said to reduce pain and joint soreness perfect for runners and athletes before and after workouts.
